West End Halloween Howl

Join in for spooky crafts, games and ghoulish fun for children two to six on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 10 a.m. to noon at the West End Community Centre, 870 Denman St., in Vancouver. Don’t forget to wear your costume. Cost is $3 per child. Pumpkin carving event follows at 12:30 until 2:30 p.m. Cost is $2 per pumpkin. Children's Halloween party

On Saturday, Oct. 28, from 1 to 3 p.m., at Douglas Park Community Centre in Vancouver, bring children three to eight in costume for a children’s Halloween party. Enjoy carnival games, crafts, treats and entertainment. Tickets are on sale now at $4 per child.

Halloween Boo party

Mount Pleasant Community Centre in Vancouver is having a Halloween Boo Party on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 1 to 4 p.m. Dress up and have fun with games, crafts, treats and then some. Suitable for families with children of all ages.

Patch in the city

Pick your own pumpkin at the sixth annual pumpkin patch in the city at the Frog Hollow Neighbourhood House, 2131 Renfrew St., in Vancouver, on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free face painting, pumpkin carving, entertainment and more.

Parade of the lost souls

Public Dreams Society's Parade of the Lost Souls is scheduled for Saturday, Oct 28, from 6 to 9 p.m., in Vancouver. Experience sacred stories, rousing rituals, staggering secrets, stirring your spirits and reawakening the magic.

Ahoy ye spooky pirates (new)

It’s a Piratical Halloween Bash for children four to 10 on Sunday, Oct. 29, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Vancouver Maritime Museum.

Mall of treaters (new)

Have fun trick-or-treating at Aberdeen Centre in Richmond on Sunday, Oct. 29, Free treat bags will be available for pickup at the 1/F Customer Service Counter starting at 2 p.m.

Coal Harbour Halloween

Visit Coal Harbour Community Centre (480 Broughton St.) in Vancouver, for their spooky Halloween events. On the agenda includes a Pint-Sized Pumpkin Party, carving pumpkins on Sunday, Oct. 29, from 1 to 4 p.m. Cost is $2 per pumpkin. On Oct. 31, take part in the Lil’ Critters Boo Bash & Trick-or-Treat Trek. Visit local merchants to pick up some treats and have fun with crafts and entertainment. Halloween at Kids Market

It’s Halloweenie at Granville Island’s Kids Market in Vancouver, on Sunday, Oct. 29, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Free hot dogs for children in costumes, trick or treating and free magic shows.

Garden Halloween Day

Enjoy a free public Halloween Day at the UBC Botanical Garden in Vancouver on Sunday, Oct. 29. From 1 to 3 p.m., parents lead a scavenger hunt in the garden, and from 3 to 4 p.m., enjoy crafts, games, story telling and more.

Barclay Manor Halloween

There’s a haunted house at Barclay Manor, 1447 Barclay St., in Vancouver, on Monday, Oct. 30, between 7 and 9 p.m. Suitable for ages six and up. Cost is $3 per person. Roundhouse fun

Join in for pumpkin carving on Sunday, Oct. 29, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Roundhouse in Vancouver. On Tuesday, Oct. 31, from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m., take part in the Halloween Carnival, featuring spooky surprises, games, and more. Children must be supervised by an adult. Trick or Treat

Trick or treat at dozens of Yaletown businesses in Vancouver on Tuesday, Oct. 31, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Map is available at the Roundhouse front desk on Oct. 31.

Halloween fireworks (new)

Minoru Park in Richmond is having an evening of fireworks and fun on Tuesday, Oct. 31. Entertainment begins at 6:30 p.m. music, magician, balloons, face painting, costume parade, fire juggling and more. Fireworks blast off at 8:15 p.m.

Family pumpkin carving

Spend a night carving pumpkins with the family at the Willingdon Community Centre, 1491 Carleton Ave., Burnaby, on Tuesday, Oct. 24, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. One pumpkin per family cost is $8.50.

Halloween howl

Splash in a spooky swim at the C.G. Brown Pool, 3702 Kensington Ave., in Burnaby, on Thursday, Oct. 26, from 7 to 9 p.m. Cost is $2.35 per person.

Trick or Treasure

Have fun at a pumpkin patch party - Trick or Treasure - on Friday, Oct. 27, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the Willingdon Church, 4812 Willingdon Ave., Burnaby. Tickets are $5 for kids (3 - 11), $3 for parents, and kids two and under are free. The family rate is $20. There will be carnival games, popcorn, cotton candy, hot dogs, music shows, and a magician. Come in costume, but not anything scary!

Film Industry Halloween Haunt

BC's film and TV industry spooks up The Bridge Studios for a Halloween fundraiser from Oct. 27 to 29. Take a haunted tour of The Bridge Studios, 2400 Boundary Rd., in Burnaby on the sets of Stargate SG-1 & Stargate Atlantis. All proceeds to Variety the Children's Charity and The International Children's Village. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for kids 14 and under. Buy tickets online at www.filmhaunt.com.

Haunted heritage

Burnaby Village Museum’s Haunted Village runs from Oct. 27 to 29, from 6 to 9 p.m. Rain or shine. Fun for all families. Wear your costumes and bring your flashlights and cameras. See the ghosts, witches and goblins lurking in the village streets. Trick-or-treat at the houses of the ghoulish village folk in Burnaby.

Neighbourhood fun (new)

Burnaby Heights is the place to be on Halloween. Check out the fun planned for Tuesday, Oct. 31, on their website at www.burnabyheights.com.

Spooky swim

Chimo Pool and the Poirier Community Centre, 630 Poirier St., in Coquitlam are presenting some spooktacular fun on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Crafts, face painting, food, colouring contest, swimming and a haunted house. Dress up in your costume. Tickets are $4.50 per child and $5 per adult. Admission inclues a hot dog, drink and swimming at Chimo Pool between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. Preregistration is recommended but you can always pay at the door. Call 604-933-6048 for more information.

There’s a party (new)

Have fun at the Place Maillardville, 1200 Cartier Ave., in Coquitlam, on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 1 to 3 p.m. Events planned for children two to eight. Fortune telling, crafts, games and more.

Halloween unmasked (new)

Go global this Halloween at Place des Arts in Coquitlam, with activities and characters from around the world highlighting both the origins of Halloween and the multicultural communities in Maillardville and Coquitlam. Music by Mr. I and the Rainbow Singers and lots of fun will be had. Take part in the fun on Sunday, Oct. 29, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Place des Arts, 1120 Brunette Ave., Coquitlam. Haunted gallery

Tarkov's Haunted Gallery, 26151 84th Ave., Langley, featuring a 6,000 square feet display with special effects, strange creatures and a twilight 18-hole mini golf course, runs through to Oct. 31, from 4 to 10 p.m.

Trick or treat train

Take a ride on the Bear Creek Park Train through the Friendly Spook Alley starting Friday, Oct. 13, and ending on Oct. 31. Children’s fare includes a Halloween craft, game, treat and a real pumpkin to take home. Bear Creek Park Train is located at 13750 88th Ave., Surrey.

Spooktacular (new)

Douglas Recreation Centre in Langley is holding its own Halloween soiree on Saturday, Oct. 28. Visit the City of Langley’s website for all the details.

Haunted House and fireworks

Check out one of the Fraser Valley’s best haunted houses at the Ghost Ridge Haunted House at the fairgrounds on 105 Avenue off the Lougheed Highway in Maple Ridge. Haunted house runs from Oct. 26 to 30. Fireworks are scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 29, at 7:15 p.m.

Carving contest

Take part in a thrilling Pumpkin Carving Contest on Thursday, Oct. 26, at the Mission Leisure Centre, 7645 Grand St., Mission, at 6:30 p.m. Call 604-820-5350 for more details.

Halloween parade

Downtown Cloverdale is hosting a Halloween parade on Saturday, Oct. 28, at 2 p.m. Registration runs from 1 to 1:45 p.m. at Surrey Museum Plaza (Hwy #10 & 176A Street).

Halloween House

Celebrate the Halloween House, a scary tour of Trethewey House in Abbotsford on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 7 to 10 p.m. Parental discretion is strongly advised. For the younger set - children under 12 - there’s the annual Children’s Halloween Festival with a costume contest, fair games, and a less scary tour of the house, on Tuesday, Oct. 31, from 3:30 to 5 p.m.

North Shore . . .

Spooky FX (new)

Thomas FX, the masterminds behind the special effects seen on film and television, is presenting spooky FX family fun tours with flying ghouls, spooky lighting, music and special effects, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily (minimum six people required to do the tour). A $2 minimum donation per person is suggested. Proceeds go to the firefighters burn fund. Thomas FX studios are located at 140 Riverside Dr., in North Vancouver. Halloween make-up demonstrations are also happening between Saturday, Oct. 28, and Tuesday, Oct. 31.

Pumpkin patch party (new)

Highlands elementary, 3150 Colwood Dr. in North Vancouver is hosting their annual pumpkin patch party on Saturday, Oct. 28, from noon to 4 p.m. at. Rides, haunted house pumpkins for sale and more.

Farm fun

Maplewood Farm is hosting their 15th annual 101 Pumpkins event on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 10 am. to 4 p.m. in North Vancouver.

Family Fireworks

It’s the annual North Vancouver Family Fireworks Spectacular on Tuesday, Oct. 31, at 8:30 p.m. at the Inter-River Park.

See more than 500 glowing pumpkins throughout the grounds of Government House, 1401 Rockland Ave., in Victoria, from Oct. 23 to Oct. 31. Hours are 6 to 9 p.m.

Hoot’n Howl

Join in for activities for kids of all ages at the Downtown Halloween Hoot' n Howl, at Harbourfront Plaza, Commercial Street and Old City Quarter, on Saturday, Oct. 28, in Nanaimo.

Pumpkin patches . . .

Laity Pumpkin Patch

Have lots of fun for the whole family at the Laity Pumpkin Patch, 21145 128th in Pitt Meadows. Patch features interactive displays, small tractor ride, animal farm, corn maze, and a huge pumpkin patch. Admission is $1 and pumpkin prices range from $2 to about $6. Visit www.laitypumpkinpatch.com for hours and directions. With the Golden Ears Mountains as the backdrop, the pumpkin patch makes for a great place for a family photo.

Willowview Farms

Head out to the country to the Willowview Farms, 288 McCallum Rd., in Abbotsford, to pick out the perfect pumpkin. Saturdays in October are Pumpkin Daze, featuring a hay maze, petting zoo, and a hay ride to the pumpkin patch. In October, the farm is open seven days a week, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and noon to 5:30 p.m. on Sundays. FYI: they also sell a tasty apple cider.

Apple Barn

Apple Barn 333 Gladwin Rd. in Abbotsford is open 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily and noon to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. The Apple Barn has a play pass for kids for $5, which includes hay rides, hay maze, bin maze, slides and petting zoo. Adults are free when accompanying children, except on the hay ride where it is $2 per additional adult. Pony rides are available on weekends for $3.50.

Aldor Acres

Venture out to Langley to check out Aldor Acres, 24990 84th Ave., Langley. Cost is $5 per person or parents and their children for $22, includes hayride, petting farm with many baby animals including a brand new baby llama. Open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

Country Farms

Richmond is home to a great pumpkin patch at Country Farms, 12900 Steveston Hwy. Sing along hay rides, petting zoo, live entertainment, corn maze and much more. Hours are Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Free admission for children under two. Weekday admission is $6 and on weekends admission is $8, which includes a pumpkin). Visit www.countryfarms.ca.
