Storytime at the zoo

The Calgary Zoo presents a free storytime (included with admission), Thursday, May 28, 11 to 11:30 a.m., in the atrium of the Karsten Discovery Centre. The program promotes literacy and animal awareness and is suitable for children three to five years old.

Parent preneur luncheon

Mayfest celebration

Come join momcafé and hear the inspirational stories of two moms who have found meaning, success and wealth in their lives. Alyson Thiessen and Patrizia Hampton of Get ‘Er Done Girls of Mortgage Intelligence will also provide advice on how to stop spending frivolously, find real wealth and prosper in an economic crisis. Centennial fun at Airdrie school

Join in for a fun centennial event at Meadowbrook Middle School, Saturday, May 30, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fun includes music, old-time games, candy, barbecue and more. Meadowbrook is located at 1796 Meadowbrook Dr., SE, Airdrie.

For the love of asparagus

Head out to Edgar Farms for the Asparagus Festival, Saturday, May 30 and Sunday, May 31, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Something for everyone, including petting zoo, bale fort, more fun activities, educational tour of the asparagus field and more. YMCA Healthy Kids Day

Northlands horse show

Now until Sunday, May 31, it’s the Edmonton Northlands Horse Show at Northlands Park on the racetrack infield. Show runs from 10 a.m. until the end of competition daily. Admission and parking are free. On Saturday, May 30 and Sunday, May 31, be sure to join in for face painting, free pony rides, and the agility dogs performing at noon and 2:15 p.m.

Kinsmen rodeo

Stony Plain hosts the Kinsmen Rodeo, Friday, May 29 to Sunday, May 31, at the exhibition grounds. Enjoy the farmer’s Day activities and rodeo.

Heritage Festival

Family fun barbecue

GirlTalk presents a family fun barbecue Sunday, June 28, 3:30 p.m., Edworthy Park (site 4). Enjoy lots of family fun, including games, playing at the park, and more. Beef and vegetarian burgers along with cool non-alcoholic drinks will be served. Bring your favourite side dish, salad or dessert to share. There are some picnic tables on site, but if you are more comfortable in your favorite camp chair, bring it along. Cost is $15 for an individual or $35 for a family (which includes up to two adults, and up to four children under 12 years of age).
