Children’s festival is underway
Have lots of fun with the kidlets at this year’s Calgary International Children’s Festival now until Saturday, May 23 at the EPCOR CENTRE for the Performing Arts and on Olympic Plaza. For all the details and show information visit www.calgarychildfest.org.
Storytime at the zoo
The Calgary Zoo presents a free storytime (included with admission), Thursday, May 21, 11 to 11:30 a.m., in the atrium of the Karsten Discovery Centre. The program promotes literacy and animal awareness and is suitable for children three to five years old.
Shopping and fundraising
The Spring Trunk Shows shopping event is scheduled for Friday, May 22, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., at Cooper Memorial Hall (across from Rundle College), 7412 – 17 Ave. SW, Calgary. Local companies like bugalug, snapdragon, and more will be on hand offering great finds ranging from purses, jewelry, art, handmade body goodies and more. A portion of all sales will be donated to Inn from the Cold – a Calgary company that helps homeless people have a place to stay as well as many other services.
Wine tasting and teaching
Moms, whether you are an avid wine drinker and looking for a new wine to try, or brand new to vino and looking for a clue this is the event for you. Join in for a two-hour wine tasting at Crowfoot Liquor, 7414 Crowfoot Rd. NW Calgary, Friday, May 22, 7 p.m. The theme is Wines from Around the World where you will enjoy a tasting of six wines, with a cheese plate to help soak it all up. International Missing Children’s Day
Saturday, May 23, it’s the annual International Mission Children’s Day www.childfind.ab.ca. Drop by Calgary City Hall Plaza on Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., to enjoy a free, fun-filled afternoon of live entertainment, games, face painting and prizes. Also take advantage of the free child fingerprinting service at the All About Me I.D. clinic on site.
Montgomery Spring Fair
Snow or no snow it’s time to celebrate spring and you can do so at the Montgomery Spring Fair, Saturday, May 23 to Monday, May 25, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Montgomery Community Hall, 5003 - 16th Ave. NW. Shop, enjoy a book fair, eat food from the international food court, play in the kids’ corner and more. Admission is $2 and children under 12 are free (to enter).
Garage sale time
Albert Park Radisson Heights hosts a community garage sale, Saturday, May 23, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the community hall, 1310 – 28th St. SE. Varsity Community Centre also hosts a community garage sale, Saturday, May 23, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the centre’s parking lot.
Family Frank Lake tour
The City of Calgary presents Family Frank Lake Tour for families, Sunday, May 27, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Cost to participate is $25 per family up to five people. Explore the Ducks Unlimited Wetland project, birdwatch, explore for insects, and more. Registration info online.
Feeding children better
Nutritionist Karla Heintz presents a talk on Feeding Children Better, Tuesday, May 26, 7:30 p.m., Playgrounds Coffee Playhouse, 555 Strathcona Blvd. SW. Cost is $20 per person and includes a beverage, healthy baking, a time to relax with other moms and a chance to learn ways to improve children’s nutrition for better learning, behaviour and less picky eaters battles.
