Storytime at the zoo

The Calgary Zoo presents a free storytime (included with admission), Thursday, May 14, 11 to 11:30 a.m., in the atrium of the Karsten Discovery Centre. The program promotes literacy and animal awareness and is suitable for children three to five years old.

Canmore Children’s Festival

Head out to Canmore for the annual Canmore Children’s Festival, Friday, May 15 and Saturday, May 16, Canmore Collegiate High School. For more info, visit www.canmorechildrensfestival.com.

A journey with an eco-philosopher

From the organizer of Movies For Mommies, TFT allows children to see their favourite programs and characters on the big screen. Screening time is only 60 minutes. Sound levels are lowered, and lights are left on a low setting. Admission is $5 per toddler. Adults and babies are free when accompanied by toddlers. Shopping and fundraising

The Spring Trunk Shows shopping event is scheduled for Friday, May 22, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., at Cooper Memorial Hall (across from Rundle College), 7412 – 17 Ave. SW, Calgary. Local companies like bugalug, snapdragon, and more will be on hand offering great finds ranging from purses, jewelry, art, handmade body goodies and more. A portion of all sales will be donated to Inn from the Cold – a Calgary company that helps homeless people have a place to stay as well as many other services.

Wine tasting and teaching *NEW*

Moms, whether you are an avid wine drinker and looking for a new wine to try, or brand new to vino and looking for a clue this is the event for you. Join in for a two-hour wine tasting at Crowfoot Liquor, 7414 Crowfoot Rd. NW Calgary, Friday, May 22, 7 p.m. The theme is Wines from Around the World where you will enjoy a tasting of six wines, with a cheese plate to help soak it all up. Family fun barbecue

GirlTalk presents a family fun barbecue Sunday, June 28, 3:30 p.m., Edworthy Park (site 4). Enjoy lots of family fun, including games, playing at the park, and more. Beef and vegetarian burgers along with cool non-alcoholic drinks will be served. Bring your favourite side dish, salad or dessert to share. There are some picnic tables on site, but if you are more comfortable in your favorite camp chair, bring it along. Cost is $15 for an individual or $35 for a family (which includes up to two adults, and up to four children under 12 years of age). Fall retreat just for you
