Storytime at the zoo
The Calgary Zoo presents a free storytime (included with admission), Thursday, March 12, 11 to 11:30 a.m., in the atrium of the Karsten Discovery Centre. The program promotes literacy and animal awareness and is suitable for children three to five years old.
Moonlight Madness sale
StartBright for Kids, 309 – 500 Country Hill Blvd. NE, is having a Moonlight Madness sale, Friday, March 13, 9:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. from 9:30 a.m. to noon, save 30 per cent; 12:01 to 5 p.m., save 20 per cent; 5:01 to 7 p.m., save 30 per cent; and 7:01 to 10 p.m., save 40 per cent on all gently used items. Kiwanis Festival

All things green
Saturday, March 14, 10:30 a.m., Airdrie Public Library is offering a fun family art program where you get to make all things green for St. Patrick’s Day. Program is free.
Mama Mingle!
Join in for some creative fun for wee ones at the Wee Welcome Mama Mingle, Saturday, March 14, 10 a.m. to noon, Art Gallery of Calgary, 117 8th Ave. SW. Tickets are $30 for adults and $5 for babies/kids. A portion of the proceeds will go to Make-A-Wish Canada. Admission includes all activities and a swag bag for each child. Spring show
Sunday, March 15, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Thorncliffe Grenview Community Centre, 5600 Centre St., NE, hosts a spring fair with lots of shopping opportunities, live cooking shows, play area for kids, and more. Please bring a non-perishable food item for the food bank.
Orgasmic Birth
Prema Sai Prenatal at the Arbour Birth Centre presents a screening of Orgasmic Birth at the Plaza Theatre in Kensington, March 15, 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. It is a documentary that examines the intimate nature of birth and the powerful role it plays in women’s lives when they are permitted to experience it fully. The Calgary International Children’s Festival is now accepting applications to fill various positions during the 2009 Festival scheduled for May 19 to 23 at the EPCOR CENTRE for the Performing Arts and on Olympic Plaza. Help Fight DMD through the Connor FundConnor Groenewoud is five years old. In July 2007, at three years of age, he was diagnosed with Duchene Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). DMD affects one in 3,500 boys worldwide and is a degenerative, lethal neuromuscular disease. Children affected with DMD progressively lose all muscle function and end up confined to a wheelchair. Sadly, they are not expected to live to see their twenties. We are asking for your support in the form of either a financial donation or a silent auction item for the event. Any and all support is greatly appreciated, and will be recognized. All monetary donations are eligible for a charitable tax receipt from the Charitable Foundation of the Family, who will be the steward of the Connor Fund. Silent auction donors will be recognized at the event. This fund has been set up because the Groenwoud’s and their family and friends believe in Connor’s future and want to ensure that the resources to deal with the financial challenges of caring for a sick child are available when they are needed.
