Toymakers Workshop

Learn to make your own toys at the Toymakers Workshop by Kit & Cadoodle Crafts, starting Thursday, Jan. 22, 6:15 to 7:45 p.m., at Mid Sun Community Centre, 50 Midpark Way SE. This workshop is all about showing kids that they can have fun the ‘old school’ way. The children will appreciate toys that they have made by hand. No paper crafts in this class. These crafts are for cuddling and playing with again and again. Stuffed animals, puppets and games. Toys from around the world and toys from long ago. For all ages. Cost is $130 or $15 drop-in. Storytime at the zoo

The Calgary Zoo presents a free storytime (included with admission), Thursday, Jan. 22, 11 to 11:30 a.m., in the atrium of the Karsten Discovery Centre. The program promotes literacy and animal awareness and is suitable for children three to five years old.

International Festival of Animated Objects

Here’s a very unique festival to check out: it’s the International Festival of Animated Objects, celebrating mask, puppetry and all things animated, Friday, Jan. 23, to Sunday, Feb. 1, at the EPCOR Centre for the Performing Arts, 205 8 Ave. SE. Family Literacy Day World Record

Take part and read with your child to help break the Guinness Wolrd Record for most children reading with an adult, multiple venues, between 2 p.m. EST on Friday, Jan. 23, and 2 p.m. EST on Saturday, Jan. 24. All Canadians will have to read Munschworks 2, by Robert Munsch, which can be downloaded online. In addition, join in some Family Literacy Day fun and try to be a part of the Guinness record attempt at various venues, including Sunridge Mall, 1 p.m., Friday, Jan. 23. The Golden Pears

Children three to six years old and your friends and family, and learn that material gain will never replace the love of our family with Storybook Theatre’s Cookie Cabaret’s presentation of The Golden Pears, now until Feb. 8.

Winter nature family fun

Explore the wonders of Inglewood Bird Sanctuary with the family during the Winter Nature Journaling, Saturday, Jan. 24, 1 to 3:30 p.m. Perfect for families with children six and up. To register and for more details, call 268-3800. Course covers the basics of observational nature drawing and supplies are included in course fee.

Car seat clinic

Find out if your child’s (baby to school-aged) car seat is correctly installed and then some at the Car Seat Clinic at Alberta Children’s Hospital Auditorium, 2888 Shaganappi Trail NW, Tuesday, Jan. 27, 7 to 9 p.m. Event is free. You must pre-register by calling Calgary Health Link at 403-943-LINK (5465).

Jilligan’s Island

Airdrie Family Theatre presents the hilarious comedy, The Pirates of Jilligan’s Island, Friday, Jan. 30 to Sunday, Feb. 1 at the Bert Church Theatre. Admission is $12. For more information, visit online. Call 403-980-0301.
