Storytime at the zoo

The Calgary Zoo presents a free storytime (included with admission), Thursday, April 30, 11 to 11:30 a.m., in the atrium of the Karsten Discovery Centre. The program promotes literacy and animal awareness and is suitable for children three to five years old.

Here’s a night for the mother’s out there with the Read & Relate book club presenting by GirlTalk, on Monday, May 4, 7 p.m. Parenting can be tough and we’ve all faced situations we’ve never dreamed of! Mothers will have a chance to read and explore different parenting/mom books and share what works/what doesn’t in our own lives. Most importantly we can enjoy the companionship and share in the joy and worry that comes with the job. This book club will meet every other month (because sometimes it might take that long to get through a book depending on how old your little ones are). The registration fee for this event is $10. The book this month is going to be Mommy Wars: Stay at home and Career Mom’s Face Off on Their Choices, Their Lives and Their Families. The author is Leslie Morgan Steiner. Swine flu

With the news on the swine flu outbreak, many are on alert. Actions to help stay healthy include covering your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze and throwing the tissue in the trash afterwards; sneeze or cough in your arm if you don’t have a tissue; wash your hands often; avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth; and if you have a cough or fever, it is recommended you stay home for about a week and don’t go to work or school if you have any symptoms. For the latest information on the swine influenza, visit the Pubilc Health Agency of Canada.
