Homeopathic immunizationsEditor's note: Vaccinating your child is a sensitive topic. Since H1N1 (the swine flu) came into the forefront, we have received many questions about vaccinations and particularly homeopathic vaccines. So, we've asked our contributor classical homeopathic practitioner to offer her insight on homeopathic immunizations. Please note that this is for information purposes only. by Sonya McLeod A little over five years ago, after my youngest daughter was born, I started to question vaccinations. I was starting to study homeopathy and was learning about healthy living. Many of the natural health books I read advised against vaccination. I didn’t really research the anti-vaccine arguments thoroughly at the time. Although I was vaguely aware that vaccines contain toxins, I was also aware that my daughter could contract a deadly disease if she did not get vaccinated, so I decided to vaccinate her. Over the next couple of years I researched the anti-vaccine argument more thoroughly. Arguments were compelling and logical yet I was still bothered by the thought of unvaccinated children contracting a deadly disease that a vaccine could have protected them from. At that time I was also introduced to the idea of homeopathic vaccines. As far as I knew, there was no evidence for the efficacy of homeopathic vaccines, so I didn’t take the idea seriously at the time. Interesting findingsThen, in 2008, some colleagues forwarded me a story about a very successful immunization program which had taken place in Cuba. In August 2007, the Cuban government distributed homeopathic immunizations to 2.5 million Cubans to protect them against a bacterial disease called leptospirosis. Normally, using regular vaccines as prevention, deaths from leptospirosis number in the thousands yearly. Administration of the homeopathic leptospirosis immunization resulted in only 10 infections and zero deaths in 2007. The homeopathic immunization protocol was repeated in 2008 and again zero deaths were recorded and only 10 infections were recorded per month. These findings in Cuba sounded so amazing that I decided to do more research about homeopathic immunizations. That is when I stumbled upon the work of Dr. Isaac Golden, an Australian homeopath who dedicated 20 years of his life to the research of the efficacy of homeopathic immunizations. Between 1988 to 2003, Golden conducted a formal research study on homeopathic immunizations. Over the course of 15 years, he gave homeopathic immunizations against childhood diseases to 2,342 children whose parents participated in his survey. He tabulated the survey responses, and found that the overall effectiveness of homeopathic immunizations is 90.4 per cent. What these numbers mean is that homeopathic immunizations are as effective or even more effective than regular vaccinations, but without the dangers of regular vaccinations. A little historyUpon doing further research, I also learned that homeopathic immunizations have a history as long as homeopathy itself. They were first used in the late 1700's by the founder of homeopathy, Dr. Samuel Hahnemann. In modern times, homeopathic immunizations have been used successfully during disease outbreaks in large segments of the population in countries such as Brazil, Argentina, France, and even the United States. How it worksHomeopathic immunizations are effective, but how exactly do they work? They work according to the same principles as all homeopathy works. All homeopathy works according to the basic principle “like cures like.” A homeopathic medicine that produces symptoms in a healthy person will cure those same symptoms in a sick person. Therefore, our immunizations are always made from the disease material of what we are trying to protect against. The whooping cough immunization, for example, is made from homeopathically prepared whooping cough bacteria. Parents must keep in mind that homeopathic immunizations are always prepared by a homeopathic pharmacy in a manner that renders them completely safe and non-toxic.
