Made in Canada, eh?

Since it’s Canada Day tomorrow (July 1), and we’ll be celebrating this fine country, we thought we’d celebrate our all-time favourite baby and mom items that are made in Canada, many by amazing moms like you!

The original leather baby bib

Can you imagine only needing to own one bib that could withstand the messiest of meals? Started in 2005, by Nicole, a mom of two, Mally Bibs are our favourite durable and adorable bibs for little eaters. Made in Canada out of baby safe leather, you can easily washes all the leftovers off these functional bibs. We also like the magnetic clip as you can stick the bib to the fridge and never lose it! We have had our first Mally Bib for four years and it still looks brand new. Even though our oldest child no longer needs to wear a bib, we still have it on the fridge for posting her art and for child guests that need a bib. You can now customize or personalize your bib. Very cool. www.mallybibs.com

For active little ones

It’s no secret that we love Milk Factory clothes for active little ones. The mastermind of originally two moms in Vancouver, the line of clothes offer sun protection, are quick to dry, breathable, lightweight, super high quality and are made in Canada. Just in time for summer, check out their new addition, the ultra cool bucket hats for toddlers. The hats feature a sun protection of UPF 40, a wide brim to provide extra sun protection around the shoulders, and more. www.milkfactory.com

Threads for the head

Initially this babyvibe momma thought that a bandana might look a little cheesy on my daughter’s head. That was until I saw how cute it was on. Now I can’t get enough of them. A great local company designing and making bandanas for babies and toddlers is Tsitah Threads. Their line up of bandanas are funky yet sweet and are a perfect fit for boys or girls. www.tsitah.com

For moms on the run

Started by a mom in Alberta, Mountain Blue Eyes offers active wear for breastfeeding moms. For summer, we love the comfort and fit of the nursing tank. The tops are made for moms with curves and hide those troublesome spots (ie. love handles) and allow you to nurse discreetly while being active. www.mountainblueyes.com

Nurse in comfort

The two moms behind YOU Pillows designed the ultimate nursing pillow to provide moms with maximum comfort, support and relaxation while nursing. The nursing pillows are made in Canada and are our favourite thus far. The covers are removable, are great for helping baby latch on and keeping mom’s posture proper while feeding. Check out the new Eco-YOU nursing pillow. www.youpillows.com

Cool threads

Started in 2004 by two moms, Westcoast Baby has made its niche with their collection of sweet and quality clothing for newborns, including the infant kimono wrap, gown, scratch mitts, booties and more. For tots, check out the pants and tops, and the ‘In the Hood’ set. All of their products are made in Vancouver. www.westcoastbaby.com

Natural baby care

We continue to be big fans of Dimpleskins Naturals, particularly the Bum Bum Balm Diaper Cream and Sniffles Eucalyptus Rub. Started by mom Jen after the birth of her first baby in 2001, Dimpleskins is a line of all-natural baby care and the products are made by hand in Canada, using only pure and organic ingredients. www.dimpleskinsnaturals.com

Perfect ponchos

The sweetest item for any little girl is a poncho from Popo’s Ponchos. In 2007, mom Karen started Po Po’s, which means grandma in Chinese. The ponchos are made in Vancouver out of high quality anti-pilling micro fleece and cotton trim. We love the playfulness of the ponchos and think they are a great must-have for cool summer evenings. www.poposponchos.com

Musical adventures

Vancouver gals Bobs & Lolo are the coolest children’s entertainers around town. Kids of all ages love their tunes and adults love their inspiring and educational music, and their dedication to connecting kids to the natural world. Kudos to the duo who recently made the big league of children’s entertainment as they are now seen regularly on Treehouse TV. Catch them live at the Coquitlam Canada Day celebration on Wednesday, July 1, at Lafarge Lake Park, 1207 Pinetree Way, at 11 a.m. Admission is free. Also check them out in a bunch of shows at the Calgary Stampede in July. www.bobsandlolo.com

Toy store

Canadian online natural toy store Natural Pod offers a line up of safe, natural toys, handmade in Canada. Our favourite made in Canada toys include the stacking ring, rocking boat and stairs, play kitchen and play stand. We applaud Natural Pod’s dedication to provide non-toxic, safe, and imagination-igniting toys for our children. www.naturalpod.com

Natural companions for your little ones

Started by a very crafty and creative mom, bamboletta dolls continue to be on our favourite list of dolls for our little princesses. Handcrafted on Vancouver Island with the upmost detail and love, bamboletta dolls are worth the investment. They are crafted with natural and high quality fibres, and are a treasure that will last a lifetime. Bamboletta dolls now offer custom doll orders for baby dolls, little buddies and the regular bamboletta doll. www.bamboletta.com

Bug a lug

Like many fellow mom entrepreneurs, Calgary mom Sundi created her line of Bugalug barrettes out of a need of finding clips that would stay put in her daughter’s hair. Bugalug’s line has now extended to hairbands, pony loops, soother clips. We love the quality of her clips that stay in our children’s hair, the fact that they are made in Canada and bonus marks go to the cuteness factor. www.bugalugbaby.com

Healthy, delicious food

Feed your new eater only the best of solid food with BOBOBABY, and BOBOKIDS. Started by a local mom, the line of organic meals and snacks for babies and children tops our list of our favourite all-time made in Canada items. www.bobobaby.com
