Smash, crash and squeak

Wrap up summer vacation with the entire family enjoying a free workshop at the ArtStarts gallery, Saturday, Aug. 29, 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. This workshop is 45 minutes and features hyperkinetic musicians. Kids will learn action-drumming using funky instruments including rubber tubing, metal bowls, garage can drums and even rubber duckies. ArtStarts is located at 808 Richards St. (at Robson) in Vancouver. Workshop is free and ideal for children five to 12. Please arrive 10 minutes early.

Safari Jeff and Shannon at Cap Mall

Safari Jeff and Shannon, authors of the children's book The Great Green Adventure Series, are bringing their show, with real live animals, to Capilano Mall in North Vancouver on Saturday, Aug. 29 and Sunday, Aug. 30. Showtimes are 1 and 3 p.m. Tickets are for reserved seating, and are by donation with proceeds going to support Canadian Paralympic Athletes. Tickets are currently on sale at the Information/Lottery Booth at Capilano Mall.

Give a hug to relieve hunger

Families are invited to join Kraft Peanut Butter Bears Smoothie and Crunchy as they share free hugs at the Vancouver Aquarium, Saturday, Aug. 29, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., in an effort to relieve hunger. For each hug given, Kraft Peanut Butter will donate one 500-gram jar of peanut butter to Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society.
