The eco vibe

In honour of Earth Day tomorrow (Wednesday, April 22), we’re highlighting some great green products for your little ones.

Natural TLC

Based in Canmore, AB, the Rocky Mountain Soap Company makes some of our favourite, 100 per cent natural products for the whole family. The mother and baby line is particularly appealing to us here at Babyvibe. From the Tiny Tot Foaming Wash to the Baby Body Butter, all products were a huge hit with everyone who sampled them. And for this Babyvibe momma, who is currently eight months pregnant, the total moisture treatment of the Belly Body Butter was especially decadent and effective for easing the itchiness of my ever-expanding belly! After using their products, we are huge fans and particularly love the company’s philosophy of living naturally and mindfully.

Keeping the nursery and baby clean

The Eco-Me Baby Kit is a must-have for new parents who have decided to freshen up their baby’s nursery in an all-natural way. At the heart of the kit is the Eco-Me Baby Blend essential oil containing chamomile and lavender, and other natural oils, and the tools that will allow you to clean. All you need to do is add white vinegar and water to create your own natural room spray, diaper pail deodorizer, baby wipes and more. Since many brands of baby wipes contain harsh or drying chemicals, and diaper pail deoderizers can contain chemicals, the Eco-Me Baby cleaning kit is a refreshing, safe alternative. Coming in under $40, the kit is perfect for any new parent who would like to save money on cleaning supplies while they save their baby’s space from harmful chemicals. Thanks to Nayla Natural Care for introducing us to this wonderful kit.

Snuggle time

Typically, we’ve found organic, eco-friendly plush to be on the pricey side. But the latest line of eco-friendly stuffies are naturally adorable and reasonable in price. Made in Indonesia, the plush toys are made from soy fiber and the stuffing comes from kapok seed pods, a sustainable rainforest crop. We’ve had the opportunity to snuggle with the baby panda and it had us on the first cuddle. The otter and monkey are pretty sweet too. Aurora Naturally Plush Toys are available online at Lavish & Lime.

Fun earth-friendly play

Made in the United States, Green Toys makes classic children’s toys from recycled plastic and other environmentally friendly materials. We can’t wait to hit the beach with the sand play set. For a list of retailers, visit online. Sprig’s eco-trucks are battery free, eco-friendly, child-safe and are made from recycle wood and reclaimed plastic. Your tot will have loads of fun digging and dumping with the excavator eco-truck. For truly natural toys that provide endless hours of safe, creative play, we recommend checking out Natural Pod.

Food on the go

This Babyvibe momma tends to only bring apples, oranges and pears when my brood heads out to the park. I feel slightly embarrassed when my daughters start mooching off our friends for their snacks. The reason I leave the small bite-size snacks at home is because I don’t want to pack them in baggies or plastic containers. However, the problem has now been solved and the girls won’t be begging for snacks from the friends as we’ve recently been introduced to the most handy stainless steel containers. Available in a set of three from Lavish & Lime, the mini stainless steel containers are perfect for safely storing bunny crackers, raisings, nuts, berries and other healthy snacks while on the go. By the way, Lavish & Lime is offering an Earth Day special: with every $50 purchase, receive a free 12-piece trapecolo bamboo puzzle from HAPE (while supply lasts).
