CURRENT EVENTS . . . Christmas in Kensington For the first three Saturdays in December enjoy Christmas in Kensington Village (Saturday, Dec. 13 and 20). The streets will be filled with elves handing out good cheer and candy canes, live music, and more. Brunch with Santa Make sure to book a spot for this year’s Brunch with Santa at the Calgary Zoo as there are still spots open for the 9 a.m. seating, Saturday, Dec. 13. Visit the zoo online to find out how to register. CP Holiday Train The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train makes its Calgary stop at the Sunnyside Greenhouse parking lot (3439 69th St. NW), Saturday, Dec. 13, 7 to 8 p.m. Entertainers on the train ride include Tracey Brown and Johnny Reid. Please check the arrival time prior to attending the event as this schedule is subject to change. Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early. The train is scheduled to arrive in Airdrie’s Nose Creek Park at 2:15 p.m. On Sunday, Dec. 14, the train makes stops in Cochrane, Canmore and Banff. For the complete schedule, visit online. Event is free but please bring a non-perishable food donation to the Calgary Food Bank. Winston Heights craft sale and breakfast WHMCA Hall, 520 27th Ave. NE hosts a craft and bake sale and a breakfast with Santa, Saturday, Dec. 13. Breakfast starts at 10 a.m. Craft sale runs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will have a craft table for the kids. Bring a non-perishable food donation to the food bank if you can! Breakfast is $2 members, $4 non-members and $1 for children. Christmas Party Room to Grow will be hosting a Christmas party on Saturday, Dec. 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Join in for holiday activities, singing, treats, and a visit from Santa! Photos with Santa will be available between 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. by appointment only. Please contact Room to Grow to book. The Christmas party is free for all Room to Grow members or $10/family for non-members. Rudolph’s breakfast Enjoy a yummy pancake breakfast, holiday games, crafts and lots of seasonal fun at Rudolph’s breakfast at Cardel Place, Saturday, Dec. 13, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. This is a family event geared toward children 2-10. Please purchase your tickets ahead of time at Guest Services. Hark the girls choir performs The Calgary Girls’ Choir presents Hark the Glad Sound, Sunday, Dec. 14, 2 p.m., Jack Singer Concert Hall. Free Christmas Photos Photographer Kristen Shima will be taking holiday photos on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2 to 6 p.m. at Cater Tot Consignment in Airdrie. You will receive one 5x7 colour photo, and reprints can be ordered directly through Kristen. The event is free, but you must register by calling (403) 912-2700. Donations of nonperishable food will be accepted for the Airdrie Food Bank. Family skate night Come in out of the cold and join in for fun on the ice and then warm up with some hot chocolate by the fire during the family skate night Dec. 19, 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Village Square Leisure Centre. Bring your skates or Kids Sport Skate Shack will be available for free skate rentals. Jingle Bells Ball Urban Treehouse in Airdrie presents Jingle Bells Ball, Dec. 20, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Decorate gingerbread cookies, enjoy face painting, make crafts, and have your photo taken with Santa between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tickets are now on sale for $12 plus GST. Family Christmas skate at the oval Tuesday, Dec. 23, noon to 4 p.m., don’t miss the Olympic Oval’s Impark family skating party. Skate with Santa, Parker Pete and Ollie the Penguin on the biggest indoor rink in Calgary! Have fun skating with your family, enjoy gingerbread decorating and story time with the Calgary Public Library all while listening to live Christmas caroling. Admission is FREE with a non-perishable food donation to the Calgary Food Bank. New Year’s Eve fun Bright Nights New Year’s Eve is scheduled to run Dec. 31, 6 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., at the Olympic Plaza. The event will feature great family entertainment and activities such as ice skating, movies on the main stage, storytelling, arts and crafts, ball hockey, roving entertainers, and a children's New Year's countdown and pyrotechnics show at 9 p.m. Great food vendors will also be on site to keep you energized for the evening's festivities. Love parenting workshops Little Wonders presents Love and Logic Parenting Workshops - Early Children Parenting Made Fun Workshops. If you are interested in hosting a "Parenting Party" for you and your friends with children between the ages of 0-6, all you need is a group of five or more parents who are willing to commit to five-week sessions of FUN! Early literacy programs Delight in watching your child grow with books, stories, songs and rhymes as they develop listening, speaking skills and a love for words, language and reading during Little Wonders classes that are injected with age appropriate fine activities, sign language and creative movement. It’s all about having FUN, with your little ones! Start the New Year off with these great classes at Covenant Christian Reformed Church, 50 Millrise Blvd. SW, in Millrise (lots of parking). A Dragon's Christmas Story Book Theatre is currently presenting its Cookie Cabaret production A Dragon’s Christmas now until Dec. 14. The show is for children three to six. Lions Festival of Lights The annual Lions Festival of Lights in Confederation Park Golf Course (24 Avenue and 14 Street NW) lights up nightly until Jan. 8. Santa's Secret Stage West presents Santa’s Secret several dates in December. For all the details, visit Stage West. Zoo Lights Calgary Zoo sparkles (to say the least) during the annual Zoo Lights. Bundle up and have fun wandering around the zoo, taking in the lights (more than a million of them), sipping on hot chocolate, and more. Zoo Lights run until Dec. 24. Once upon a Christmas Heritage Park presents Once Upon A Christmas, weekends until Dec. 21, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The old-fashioned Christmas experience runs Saturdays and Sunday.
