This Christmas, why not avoid the crazy jam-packed shopping centres, and bundle up and hit the streets of Kensington where you’ll find all that you need and more. We’ve offered our top picks for stores that will suit your entire family.

Toys

On any child’s list this holiday season, there will likely be toys topping the list. Here at Babyvibe, we love dropping by Livingstone & Cavell Extraordinary Toys, 1124A Kensington Rd. NW, to find high quality, unique toys for any child. This toy store carries a great selection of toys and dolls for kids of all ages. They have a great selection of Corolle dolls and accessories, Melissa and Doug items, and, in general, an interesting and unique selection of tin and clockwork toys, Britain’s Miniatures, Marklin trains, collector dolls, Wilesco steam engines and more.

Clothes for little ones

Child at Heart Children’s Store, 940 2nd Ave NW, carries a sweet assortment of clothing, accessories and toys for babies and young children. Here, you’ll be able to find fashionable threads from great brands like MEXX and Deux par Deux, toys, and more.

Eat

Pages is known as being “Calgary’s literacy meeting place” with more than 10,000 titles in stock, and they offer special order service. For parents, Pages also runs a Baby story time on Monday mornings (check with the shop to find out more details).

Just for mommy

Mommy or mommy-to-be deserves to be spoiled this holiday season (or any time of year). At Posh Mommy, 2120 Kensington Rd., NW, there’s a fabulous selection of stylish threads for expecting and new moms. Grant mommy a makeover and send her off on a shopping spree at Posh Mommy. Or, if you are expecting or battling the new mommy bulge and have to attend a Christmas party, you’ll find great clothes that will leave you feeling and looking fab. For children, Posh Mommy offers a great selection of Tea Collection items, baby carriers and more. It’s a bit of a hike from the main part of Kensington Village so we recommend driving. Thankfully, there’s ample parking out front.

Christmas fun

Every Saturday in December Kensington Village celebrates the Christmas season. On Saturday, Dec. 13, 11:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m., in front of the Plaza Theatre, it’s Kensington Village’s customer appreciation holiday celebration. At 2:15 p.m., you can catch a screening of It’s A Wonderful Life (free with food bank donation) at the Plaza.
