Tuesday, November 4, 2008 - B.C. and Calgary edition What's the vibe today . . .It’s a funky “Trunki” for your travellin’ monkey! Here at Babyvibe, we love the idea of travelling with our little ones . . . it’s just the reality of this concept that tends to give us trouble! If only there was a remedy for the meltdowns, boredom, and fatigue that seem to be such a large and necessary part of any family vacation. Lucky for us, there is finally something on the market that just might help our travellin’ tot troubles! What it is The Trunki is a British import, which is a ride-on suitcase geared at children over age two (although we have seen toddlers as young as 18 months use a Trunki). Trunki’s lightweight (three pounds) yet sturdy design offers a roomy 18-litre interior in which little ones can safely pack their favourite belongings with special seatbelts. Once packed and ready to go, your child will enjoy pulling their colourful wheeled Trunki using the comfortable hand strap. However, the real magic of Trunki happens when your little one tires of walking through that endless airport and is ready to take a ride. Your tot can hop onboard the Trunki seat, and let mom or dad do the towing, or even scoot along themselves. Why we love it Trunki’s award-winning design encourages children to stop carrying heavy, overloaded bags which can damage their growing spines. The whole concept of Trunki encourages even the littlest ones to take responsibility for their own suitcase from packing their Trunki, to towing it to riding (safely) on it. Don’t worry about your child breaking Trunki when she hops on as it can hold over 100 pounds. We also love that the Trunki comes in a variety of fun designs and colours, and that its handles and snaps look like a face on its front. When you are ready to tuck away your Trunki while in-flight, it stores easily in the overhead compartment or under the seat, making it the perfect carry-on bag. In short, Trunki makes family journeys more fun for children, and less stressful for parents. With Trunki in the family, we almost feel equipped to take that kid-friendly vacation we’ve been dreaming about…. Where to find it Since Trunki is a new arrival, it still falls into the “hard-to-get” category. For information on how to get Trunki locally in your area, you can contact their Canadian rep from the UK-based Trunki site. Or, you can purchase/order directly from Canadian online stores such as Moms Finds, where Trunki retails for under $50. In Vancouver, you can pick up a Trunki at Wanderlust, The Travellers Store, 1929 West 4th Ave. Definitely something to add to your Christmas list!
