Monday, December 3, 2007 - B.C. and Calgary What's the vibe today . . .Good to see While we don’t encourage television watching for babies and toddlers, we know that sometimes a DVD can come in handy. Before this Babyvibe momma had kids, I swore that they were never going to watch any TV. But when the first child arrived, I found that a show or a DVD every now and then wasn’t so bad. Fast forward to the second child, and I have to admit, educational DVDs have been a saving grace. We have the vibe on a few great DVDs that will be a welcome addition to any multi-media library, and would make for great stocking stuffers too. Bobs & Lolo It’s no secret that we are big fans of Bobs & Lolo. The singing duo from BC spreads a great environmental message. Through their music, they engage, inspire and educate, teaching kids to care about themselves, their neighbours and the planet. Now, the two singers have just released a DVD that will undoubtedly be a hit with any baby, toddler, child, or adult in your home. Their DVD, On Your Feet, was recently introduced to Babyvibe product testers Marley, 2 1/2, and Kaylee, 8 months, and it was an immediate winner. Marley was dancing along with Bobs & Lolo (or Robyn and Lorraine) and Kaylee was bopping up and down, waving her arms, and screaming with glee. This Babyvibe momma was impressed with DVD production quality, the graphics, which aren’t too flashy or over-stimulating, and the songs are all uplifting. Bottom line: this DVD is fun and educational. For more details visit www.bobsandlolo.com. Green Baby Locally made, starring local babies and tots (many are your kids!), Green Baby is the green generation’s baby DVD. Made by a Fort Langley couple, who are new parents, the DVD features babies’ faces with nature as the setting. The goal of the DVD is to help create an environmental conscience in children. We like the fact that scenes last for at least 10 seconds and contain no cuts or fancy effects, which can be harmful for young, developing minds. The DVD is soothing, filled with the wonders of Mother Nature, and is a great way to interact with your children and point out all the great aspects of the world they live in. Visit www.greenbaby.ca to purchase the DVD online or to find a retailer close to you. Baby Einstein Everyone knows the world of Baby Einstein. In fact, you may have received one of many DVDs as a baby shower present. One of the newest DVDs to join the large Baby Einstein collection is Discovering Shapes. Hosted by a Rhino puppet, the DVD encourages children to find and identify shapes in the objects they see in their world everyday. Suitable for nine months and older. We like the DVD largely because it has helped Babyvibe product tester Marley learn her shapes. For some reason, the teachings of mom were not intriguing enough. But the help of a Rhino on the tube, seemed to really help Marley learn her shapes. At the age of two, she’ll gladly point out an oval, circle, triangle, square and more. Now if only we could get her to brush her teeth properly. Is there a Baby Einstein for that in the works? Baby Einstein DVDs are available just about anywhere – check out your local shopping centre. Good to know Through some research a little TV or DVD can actually help your child’s speech development. The best thing is to sit down with your child while the show is on and interact with them. Ask them questions, have them say words and most importantly, enjoy your downtime together. |
