Monday, April 16, 2007 - B.C. and Calgary What's the vibe today . . .Teething helpers Babyvibe momma Michelle and her son Jack, nine months, turn heads wherever they go. It’s not just because he’s super cute. Rather, Jack is often seen sporting two very helpful teething devices, and moms are wanting to find out where Michelle found them. Sophie the Giraffe All the way from France, Sophie the Giraffe is more than 40 years old. She’s a loveable little giraffe that teething babes chomp down on to soothe their aching gums. The giraffe is made from natural rubber (it’s phthalate free) and non-toxic paint. Soft and flexible, the giraffe is easy for little hands to hold. Michelle tells us that the cute giraffe is Jack’s favourite thing in the world and he doesn’t seem to get bored with it. We found these Canadian online retailers to carry Sophie the Giraffe: Cheeky Monkey, Blue Blankie, and Kidalog. Berry delightful According to Michelle, Jack’s other favourite is the Raz-Berry teether. Made from silicone, this non-toxic item doubles as a teether and a pacifier. The multi-textured teether, which can be chilled, helps soothe gums and also stimulates the little one. The teether is widely available at most baby boutiques and online at Cheeky Monkey, Baby Planet Boutique, Funky Monkey Baby and more. Angel toothbrush Babyvibe product tester Marley, close to two years old, never left home without her handy Angel Toothbrush. For more than a year, she used the silicone toothbrush as a teething device. While it soothed her teething gums, this device received top marks from mom because it helped keep her teeth and gums clean. Perfect to preventing tooth decay. She also became use to having to brush her teeth. The angel toothbrush is available at many baby stores. We bought Marley’s at Crocodile Baby. Au naturel For those who prefer a truly natural device to help soothe teething gums, try a wooden teething ring. Check out a simple yet effective wooden teething ring at Natural Pod. Another favourite among parents is the hazelnut teething necklace with amber. The necklace is worn around the neck and by wearing the beads against the skin, the hazelnut decreases the acidity levels in the child’s mouth, which helps minimize the teething pain. According to Natural Pod, the hazelnut beads are “handmade from sustainably harvested, organically grown hazelnut trees by a local Vancouver artisan and father.” The beads are large enough so that small mouths can’t choke on them and a child can’t reach the necklace with his or her mouth. |
